Does Christianity Allow Homosexuality?
An anonymous author of renaissance period wrote, “The world is chang’d I know not how, For men kiss men, not Women now”. Throughout history, homosexuality has been admired and condemned by various societies and religious organizations as per their norms and regulations. Though it was once looked upon as a sin, slowly it is being decriminalized in all the developed countries, in the middle of the 20th century. And even in US, we can see new laws and regulations coming up for civil rights of gays and lesbians. However, the legal status of homosexuality varies from country to country.
So, does Christianity allow the concept of homosexuality? Well, most of the religious authoritative bodies around the world see homosexuality negatively, claiming it as a sin and not as sexual orientation. Similarly, Roman Catholic church, Reformed and Protestant churches condemned the idea of same-sex sexual relations. They argue that passages from the Old Testament tell us to punish homosexuals and that AIDS is a form of punishment by God Himself, for those who go against His will. However, many theologians believe and challenge this concept and suggest that passages from Old Testament have been misinterpreted and mistranslated for various religious and political reasons.
Many other Christian churches do not condemn acts of homosexuality as bad or evil and also condone gay marriages and blessing of gay unions. The United Church of Christ in the US, generally considered with the Reformed tradition, allows same-sex marriage and see sexual orientation as a Gift of God. However, The Holy Bible, both in Old and New Testament deem homosexual behavior sinful.
Many Christians in the US consider marriage as an union of a man and a woman, and any sexual act outside this relationship is considered sinful. Most Evangelicals and conservative Protestants consider homosexuality as a sin. A study shows that around 64 percent of committed white American Catholics consider acts of homosexuality as going God’s design of marriage. At the same time, research also shows that around 55 percent of people in America, think that all men are created equal in the image of God and that they deserve love and respect.
Hence, we can definitely see that homosexuality still is a very controversial topic in the United States of America, since it is very close to Christianity and because it challenges the holy scripture, The Bible.

It is amazing to me that so called scolars seem to have trouble acknowleging that the Bible, “God’s Word” is without question against the sin of homosexuality. Even the 1st chapter of the bood of Romans calls is vile affection. Just because the are so called educated doesn’t mean they are the authority on interpreting or undestanding scripture. Come on, it’s quite obivious how GOD feels about this type of behavior.
