Dieting or DIE-ting!
Being in shape is very much in trend nowadays. Everybody is increasingly becoming more and more conscious about how they look and how they can workout to make sure heads turn when they walk the carpet. Its what everyone says “The In thing”. And above that we have Hollywood, that makes a big impact on young people. Everybody, even in the most isolated corners of America, would like to have a body like Jennifer Lopez and Cindy Crawford, so that they can become the center of attraction and talk of the neighborhood.
With obesity being one of the most talked about health problems of America, people are switching to gyms and dieting plans to make sure they remain fit. With so much health consciousness around in the public, you would become a laughing stock of the community, if you don’t be a part of this revolution. However, people don’t realize that anything in excess or too little can hurt you, and balancing your diet is the mantra of dieting.
If young boys are getting more conscious about flexing and gaining muscles to look like the hunk, girls are on spree to slim themselves to make sure they look like a photocopy of supermodel they idolize. The moment we switch on our TV sets, we see idiotic ads of slimming pills and home-based gym instruments and dieting plans. People are so much involved into getting slim that they start starving themselves (especially the young girls who want the supermodel look). This is now turning into a disaster called Anorexia Nervosa.
Oh, never heard about this term before, well, it’s a kind of eating disorder characterized by extremely low body weight and body image distortion. It occurs due to voluntary starvation, excessive exercise and taking diet pills or diuretic drugs. It has a range of ill effects which can be very disturbing to hear, but let me mention some of them for you. Physically effects are extreme low weight, headaches, always feeling cold, slow heart rate, thinning of hair, constipation, reduction of white blood cells, tooth decay , dry skin and so on. Emotionally one suffers from low self esteem, phobia of becoming overweight and mood swings.
Research has confirmed that anorexia nervosa causes from biological, social and psychological factors which the patient sees, hears and feels around themselves. Its time we realize that dieting is about healthy food and not about DIE-ting!
