Death Penalty Needs to GO!
To even the most casual observer, the ethics of American politics, the legal system, and everyday life is full of contradictions. The vast majority of the citizens of the US adhere to the Big Three religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. All three of those religions have a very specific and basic system of morals. Do not steal, do not rape, do not kill. Yet at the same time the very same majority of people that supposedly adhere to these philosophies see absolutely nothing wrong with the death penalty, which is in essence, state sponsored murder.
Concurrently, unless you have a severe developmental disorder, you can see that the American legal system is quite flawed. If you have enough money, you can get away with anything, including murder as the highly televised OJ Simpson trial of the 90’s proved beyond a reasonable doubt. Because the legal system is flawed, and because a savvy enough lawyer can pretty much get whatever verdict they want, it is a proven fact that innocent people have been sent to their deaths for crimes they did not commit.
As an example, take the case of Cameron Todd Willingham, who in 2004 was put to death in the state of Texas for setting a fire that killed his three daughters. After he was murdered by the state, irrefutable evidence surfaced that exonerated this man, but far too late. Cameron Todd Willingham was killed by the state of Texas for a crime he did not commit.
When the government, be it State or Federal, puts someone to death, how can it be argued that these people are any better than the very murderers that they in turn have murdered? The Death Penalty needs to be completely taken out of our legal system. Killing someone, for any reason other than immediate self defense should never be an option, for anyone. Ever.
