Bullying…Do We Really Care?
Bullying in schools is not something new to any US citizen who has ever been to school. Come on, when we were kids, didn’t we know that schools are kind of institutions which not only teaches you to live, but also teaches you the game of survival? The moment you are in, you are being bashed around all the time, become subject to derogatory comments by the seniors and your self-esteem is all time low.
So many years have gone by, but so far nothing has been done to eradicate this mental and physical torture that a child goes through when walks into the school. All we here is that a survey has been conducted by the concerned authorities like NICHD, and they have found the bullying across US is widespread. And they are taking definitive steps to make sure this act of criminal behavior is brought down, for which they are giving questionnaires to the students in schools and are going through some one-to-one interviews. Oh, come on, do you think a child whose confidence and inner state has been vandalised, will speak out the truth?
Kids who are victims of such torture, normally are scared and suffer from depression and other mental disorders throughout their life, they take up smoking, drinking and prefer staying isolated because of what went wrong when they were in schools. And those who bully others, get into psychological problems which gradually leads them to criminal way of life like harassment and molestation, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see such people shooting up somebody on school premises or somewhere else.
With the kind of lifestyle we are living in, parents as well as school administrators are too busy to look after what their kids or students are doing once they are on school campus. No wonder, bullying has become an integral part of our so called civilized school life. So, rather address those kids who are different from others, to start behaving like the group they are in, else the danger of getting bullied someday. And it is very difficult to go through the torture, some of them even commit suicide under such kind of peer pressure. Wonder how we will ever be able to end this national tragedy called “Bullying.
