American Education System Sucks?

american education system with flaws

Education seems to be becoming a joke in America. Instead of turning kids into civilized humans, it seems schools are the hot spots for turning them into thugs! Crime rate seems to be ever increasing in the schools all across America. So what’s the reason behind this? The fact that looking ‘cool’ and being the ‘dude’ has surely gotten these kids into trouble. Drugs and alcohol have added to this cause and together they make a deadly combination, perfect for crime and anti social activities. There is no question that the TV and the gaming world inspires most of these crimes (especially the ones which are done for the heck of it)but their parents are equally responsible.

Nowadays, students get involved in many activities that are illegal, be it pimping, rape, murder, harassment, kidnapping, vandalizing and a whole lot more. For some, schools are more like prisons. Why? Because in schools we try to tame students who often go wild, while in prisons we tame the wild citizens. End result, many dropout from the schools.

Have you ever seen the detention rooms in schools lately? They are getting crowded and it looks like these kids start bonding with similar characters in the detention rooms. It isn’t enough for the schools to teach the kids History or Math, they need to teach them on how to be responsible for their acts. Some of these kids have no clue on what they do and they end up screwing up their lives forever by committing some serious crimes.

So what do you think is lacking in our education system? Yes, we teach everything except for how to become a good responsible human being. All we care about is the money and success (which again we think is wrongly defined). Is it the competitive world that has changed the face of education?

First thing is stop calling high school students kids and children. A 6′2 240lb middle line backer for the team is not a “child”. I’ve always liked “young adult”, but no one likes that one. What’s to be done? I’m 63 and a retired school teacher. Back in the day students didn’t have “rights”, if we screwed up we went home and the greater number of us met a WW2 vet as “Dad”. You want to stand up to a combat vet? Today you met a lawyer, court time an angry mommy whos “baby” didn’t do it. You hear it every day, the “young adult” who just killed 6 people, and his mommy saying “he’s a good boy”. Answers? Oh, I’ve got ‘em but no would like to hear them. Have nice day.

America’s public schools have become nothing more than day-care centers for grades 1 through 12.

I taught 31 years from 19 73 through 2005; I took one year off to explore another job, but found teaching was my avocation.

I witnessed the dumbing down of the public education system during those years; fought it every step of the way and lost at almost every turn.

NCLB is a system to indoctrinate, not educate.

All I can say about the current state of public education is…Duh!

I don’t think it is just the American education system… my personal opinion is that the phenomenon is global…

The human kind seems to have made a fatal mistake of choosing competition over cooperation in the way we deal with others of our own species and the environment at large.

I feel that social behavior is to a large extent an acquired trait and the education systems around the world sorely lack the correct perspective…

We don’t need more PhDs and Masters of Highly Specialized Subjects. What the human kind today is in dire need of, is a generation of humans who are educated thoroughly at what it is to be a “human”.

I agree that the american education system sucks a big one … but youre also missing the whole part about the parents being completely nonchalant about their kids. and of course, the legal issues with beating your kids now to make them shape up (on both the side of the parents and the educators). vicious cycle: these kids will turn out like their parents raising even more ignorant kids etc etc…
